CEC is the State Controller's web-based portal that allows you to view/print your paystubs and Form W-2s.

In the event you lose your Form W–2, or require a duplicate copy you can download a copy from Cal Employee Connect under the "W-2" tab. You also can request one from the State Controller's Office. To do so you must obtain a Standard Form 436: Request for Duplicate Wage and Tax Statement: As a fill and print PDF form.

 According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Publication 15-A, employees must consent (either electronically or by paper document) to receive their W-2 electronically.

You should keep up-to-date records or pay stubs until you receive your Form W-2. If your employer or its representatives fails to provide you with a Form W-2, contact the IRS and we can help by providing you with a substitute Form W-2.

You still must file your tax return on time even if you do not receive your Form W-2. If you cannot get a W-2 by your tax-filing deadline, you may use Form 4852, “Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement,” but it will delay any refund due while the information is verified.

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099's). You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $126).

How do I get a W-2 if I don't work? ›

Generally, if someone does not actually work, they won't get a W-2, even if they are "on the books" as an employee. If no W-2 is issued, the IRS wont be looking for it and it's perfectly ok to have a W-2 last year and not this year.

Any legal action against an employer for failing to provide a W-2 or providing an incorrect W-2 would typically involve labor or tax authorities rather than filing an individual lawsuit.

Direct your request to the company's human resources or payroll department, as they typically are the ones who issue these forms. Politely ask them to send your form, and confirm your current address or email. If you have moved since leaving the job, your W-2 form may have been sent to your old address.

Otherwise, you'll need to contact your employer or SSA for a copy. The quickest way to obtain a copy of your current year Form W-2 is through your employer. Your employer first submits Form W-2 to SSA; after SSA processes it, they transmit the federal tax information to the IRS.

The only way to get an actual copy of your Form W-2 from us is to order a copy of the entire return by using Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return and paying a $30 fee for each return requested.

Go to PostalEASE, which you can access from Blue, LiteBlue and self-service kiosks at many Postal Service facilities. You'll need your employee identification number and password to log in. Once you have access, follow the prompts to obtain duplicate W-2 or 1095-C forms.

You will have access to your W-2 as soon as it is completed, shortly after the first of the year. To access your W-2, you must have a WebCenter login (this should have been completed when you registered with Manpower.
