Roblox is like Y combinator for kidsI had the chance to interview several Roblox game developers, ranging from as young as 14 to as old as 30.Interviewing them made me realize that Roblox has achieved something that our conventional education system has failed to do.Most of the kids started developing on Roblox because "making your own game" sounded incredibly fun to them. None of them had any fancy technical background; they were just kids with a passion for creating games.Roblox gave them the tools, a supportive community, and an easy way to get started. They found it easy to build games using Roblox Studio and the Lua programming language. This experience wasn't just an introduction to tech; it was also a glimpse into the world of business.Roblox taught them how to communicate with professionals, manage diverse teams, create assets and sell them in a marketplace, and, most importantly, turn their passion into a way to make a living.Did you notice what Roblox did here? They are not manufacturing games or game developers. Roblox manufactures mini-entrepreneurs.Something that our conventional education system has failed to do.I did a case study about Roblox, explaining more similar aspects that made them successful.๐Ÿ”— Check it out here for free: https://bit.ly/3QBBPbH ๐Ÿ”— #roblox #ycombinator #yc #gamedev #gamesindustry #games Roblox Y Combinator

It's finally Friday! Which means here's your last round-up of news before heading into the weekend. Hope you've all had a good week so far.1. Relic Entertainment, a week after announcing they had become an independent studio thanks to support from an "external investor" announced it would be laying off employees, and though it originally did not say how many, a Relic developer indicated the number was 41. Hope all those impacted are able to land on their feet, it never gets easier seeing more layoffs across the industry. https://lnkd.in/g9ugBHYt2. Roblox Studio head Stefano Corazza had some...curious, words, we'll call them, about how Roblox isn't exploiting child labour by making money off its large pool of child developers making games on its platform who are then earning money. Instead, Corazza says it's actually a "gift" that these kids can earn money from their games at all. https://lnkd.in/gFVhUWmx3. Not from me but from my brother-in-News-arms at PSU, Mike Harradence, C-Smash VRS is getting a non-VR mode, which, while I love the original game, will probably result in me playing C-Smash a lot more. https://lnkd.in/gx8dPftr4. System Shock Remake is getting a reworked ending, the option to play as a female Hacker and more in its next update, ahead of its console release coming in May. I've not yet played either the OG System Shock or this Remake, but with this new update coming and the console launch, I think it might finally be time. https://lnkd.in/gWnRp6wJAnd that's it for the week! If I'm not too tired tonight perhaps I'll post a round-up of today's news, but we'll see how that goes. Hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend, let me know what you're playing and your thoughts about what's happening across the industry.

ICYMI: The rise of Roblox as a more mature ecosystem has been fascinating, but #marketers should proceed with caution in this still-kid-centric realm ๐ŸŽฎ. I'm hearing more negative stories. ๐Ÿšจ ๐Ÿ“Œ While Roblox offers exceptional engagement, brands must tread carefully:๐Ÿ’ก Predator Risk: Adults interacting with kids = terrible outcomes.๐Ÿ’ก Inappropriate UGC: Content challenges for parent = traumatic exposure.๐Ÿ’ก Chat Function: Safety concerns. Kids are circumventing the guardrails.๐Ÿ’ก Age Verification: Protecting young users is complex.๐Ÿ’ก Brain Impact: Gaming's effect on young brains. Ask any doctor.๐Ÿ’ก In-Game Purchases: Hidden expenses for parents are adding up.Yes, this happens on other channels. But Roblox was BUILT for children first and foremost, and marketers should weigh engagement with child safety. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ”— I go deeper... https://lnkd.in/eApzAScm
